Fashion Asia and I.T host exhibition to spotlight Hong Kong fashion designers

Fashion Asia and I.T team up to bring the focus on Hong Kong’s next generation of fashion designers

Fashion Asia, an initiative by the Hong Kong Design Centre, is collaborating with multi-brand fashion house I.T to showcase local designers. Running from now to March 25, the Hong Kong Showroom exhibition is held at I.T’s store on One Hysan Avenue.

Five fashion brands from Hong Kong have been handpicked by the fashion buyers from I.T to showcase their 2024 Spring/Summer collections. They are Cafuné, Kowlooncityboy, Redemptive, Wilsonkaki, and YMDH (You Make Daddy Happy). Get to know the story behind these brands here first before you pop down to check out their latest offerings.

Cafuné

Cafuné is derived from the Portuguese word for the act of running your fingers through the hair of someone you love. Taking its cue from that, the brand’s goal is to reimagine luxury in terms of the attachment and emotional connection between a wearer and an item. Founded in 2015 by lifelong friends Queenie Fan and Day Lau, Cafuné’s playful silhouettes balance modern and classic elements to create timeless designs while exploring new possibilities with unconventional materials.

Kowlooncityboy

A graduate of Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s fashion programme, Toki Wong founded Kowlooncityboy in 2021. The brand’s mission is to craft fashion items that are both beautiful and down-to-earth, so one can expect designs that are not only visually appealing but also practical and wearable in daily life.

Redemptive

Award-winning designer Wilson Choi founded Redemptive in 2018. The brand merges tech with fashion for a truly unique style that has seen it exhibited at Paris Fashion Week, gained a finalist placing for the Yu Prize Creative Award 2021 at Shanghai Fashion Week, and garnered media recognition.

Wilsonkaki

Wilsonkaki was launched in 2021 by Wilson Yip after completing a Master of Arts at Central Saint Martins in London. Yip has been awarded by Fashion Asia as one of the ‘10 Asian Designers To Watch’ the very same year when the brand was established. Wilsonkaki adds a hyper-modern touch to the everyday wardrobe through the exploration of deconstruction.

YMDH

Founded in 2018 by designer Jason Lee, YMDH (You Make Daddy Happy) is a proudly made in Hong Kong label. The brand won a Gold Award in the Fashion & Accessory category at the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2022. Known for its vibrant pop-ups around town and for celebrating novelty and imagination with a sense of humour, it is a favourite among local influencers and media.

Nancy Kwai and Kenji Fan rock up to the Hong Kong Showroom and Pop-up Spaces Opening Ceremony.

Besides these five brands showcased in the Hong Kong Showroom exhibition, Fashion Asia is also introducing a Pop-up Spaces exhibition at the same venue. This will be used to spotlight outstanding works of local fashion design graduates from Hong Kong Design Institute, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong and Caritas Bianchi College of Careers.
