Not many of us can swap out big furniture pieces to freshen up our homes for the decor flavour of the season, however, there are small things we can do to make our living spaces feel like a whole new place.

Cinda McClelland Reynolds and Lucia Tait Tolani are co-founders of Permanent Resident, an e-commerce site that offers a curation of meticulously designed in-house collection, comprising colourful, eclectic and characterful pieces you can easily add to your current decor. And to achieve your homely transformation this Spring, they give us three big tips on how to achieve this.

1. Spring cleaning – light and bright

Mirrors reflect the sunlight and warmth of the season and are a simple, understated way to make your home appear more spacious. Place a mirror in your foyer, powder room, or hallway to maximise the Spring daylight and filter sun throughout your home. Style flora and fauna in front of the mirror to evoke the outdoors inside and simultaneously enhance your mood. Spring is a time of renewal after all.

Alexandra Mirror in White at Haw Par Mansion by Tory Ho

Must-have item

  • The Alexandra Mirror: is the perfect accent for your bathroom, console, hallway, or entryway. Featuring natural reeds that are hand sculpted and fastened to a raffia-based framework, this mirror is sure to shine. Our classic motif of a repeating Greek key paired with a curved line brings a distinctive personality to the piece. Its white and natural colour scheme is a nod to a beachside palette. Constructed of rattan, raffia, Tanguile wood, and glass, this item is handmade in the Philippines.

2. Colourful cocktail glassware

Evening entertaining in springtime calls for refreshing recipes in colourful cocktail glassware – even better when hues and mixed and mingled. We love to blend a signature drink before guests come so we can pour on demand and be present at the party – think a Paloma or a Gin Fizz. Prepare your pitcher with fresh fruit or herb garnishes and plenty of ice, then serve outdoors for peak Spring vibes.

Must-have item

  • The Prestige Pitcher in multiple colours by Creart: Bottles be banned! Serve everything from fresh lime soda to sangria in this bright and beautiful vessel. Handcrafted in glass with vertical ridges and adorned with an iridescent finish in green, this cylindrical pitcher will add glamour to any table setting or drink service.

3. Pastel tabletop

Set the tone for Spring with a perfect pastel tabletop palate and your dining space will become a cheerful place to gather with friends and family. Start by mimicking the season’s blossoming florals with light and bright patterned linens, coordinate your dishware with the tones of your tablecloth, napkins, and placemats, and lastly, layer on a natural silverware setting – just don’t forget the flowers. Creating a sense of fun and whimsy will keep you and your guests entertained throughout their meal.
