Watches and Wonders 2024: Oris presents facelift to the Aquis diver watch

Oris’ Aquis gets ergonomic updates that brings the watch a more comfortable wrist experience, writes Gloria Fung

Oris launched a revamp of one of its pillar collections at this year’s Watches and Wonders, presenting a range of reimagined Aquis Date and Aquis Date Upcycle references.

The facelift sees significant changes to the Aquis design, namely more ergonomic lugs that better hug the wrist and a more streamlined crown protector for enhanced shock and impact protection. Aside from being functionally sound, these design elements also change the look of the piece. The Aquis Date reference now looks more sleek and fluid compared to its predecessor.

Still, the watch retains classic elements of a dive watch, including a coloured rotating ceramic bezel that works to keep track of time lapsed, which is especially important when tracking oxygen levels during dives.

The Aquis Date gets several new iterations, including pieces with mother-of-pearl, blue, green, or black dials in a trio of sizes. Against the dial are superluminova-coated hour markers and hands for enhanced legibility above or below water.

The design is fitted with a rubber or matching stainless steel bracelet with a quick-adjust clasp that can easily be resized to fit over a diving suit or simply give more room on a hot summer day.

Along with the unidirectional bezel that tracks the time, the indicates the hour, minute and second hands as well as the date displayed through an aperture at the six o’clock position. The piece is presented in one of two movement options, the Oris Calibre 400 automatic or the 733 Sellita Sw200 automatic movement.

Featuring the same heartbeat and functions, the Aquis Date Upcycle features colourful, one-of-a-kind dials repurposed from PET, sourced from, appropriately for a dive watch, ocean plastic waste. PET in several colours is used to forge these dials, and the patterns generated are unique. This reference of the piece features a tungsten bezel.

The Aquis Date is released in three sizes, 43.5 mm, 41.5 mm, 36.5 mm while the Upcycle rendition is available in both 43.5 mm.
