2017 was the year of the bum bag, and not just for those into sportswear or retro styles. In fact, every high fashion brand has come out with its own version of the versatile fanny pack – whether it’s Prada, Gucci or Louis Vuitton. We’ve seen the look worn on everyone from Kendall Jenner (who’s been spotted in a variety of waistbags on multiple occasions) to the likes of Kanye West and A$AP Rocky. 

Solidifying the fanny pack’s place in fashion today, are eBay’s latest numbers. In its “Top Shopped” list for 2017, “throwback streetwear” was a major mover. According to the list, “The ’80s and ’90s streetwear trend reached its tipping point in 2017, with more than 57K fanny packs and more than 25K Champion sweatshirts purchased.” 

57,000 fanny packs is a LOT of fanny packs, especially coming from a site like eBay. But it makes sense – before the fashion brands caught up to this retro trend, many on-the-pulse consumers wanted to get their hands on the real thing – fanny packs that are actually from the ’90s.
