Virgil Abloh has one of the most extensive portfolios of collaborative projects in the design world today; from Rimowa suitcases to IKEA rugs and evian glass bottles, his endeavours stretch far beyond fashion. Now, he’s piercing the automotive bubble too.

On Monday, Mercedes-Benz took to Instagram to announce an upcoming project with Off-White founder, Virgil Abloh. The project, titled “Project Geländewagen”, will be an unconventional intersection between art, fashion, and automotives. Abloh is going to be working closely with Chief Design Officer at Mercedes-Benz Gorden Wagener, to create a unique artwork inspired by the brand’s G-Class model.

The artistic initiative comes at a time where both parties share the belief that there is a great need to support the arts and the international creative community right now. As a response to that, a limited edition home-scale replica of the artwork will be auctioned off in the future. All proceeds will be donated to a charity that supports the creative community, which has yet to be named.

A digital launch of the artwork is scheduled for 8 September 2020 at 4pm CET / 10pm HKT. Since that’s quite a while away, sign up here to receive an event reminder.
