The Hong Kong Palace Museum just launched its new Cultural Salon series. The very first event, titled “Jewels of Culture: An Exploration of Artistic Adornments from Around the World,” took place on May 21, 2026. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Victoria Harbour, the exclusive evening brought together over 200 artists, designers, art collectors and fashion insiders for a night of great conversation and art appreciation

The event was planned to match the Museum’s current major exhibition, “Treasures of Global Jewellery from The Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Body Transformed”. Guests enjoyed special after-hours access to the galleries, giving them a rare chance to look at these incredible historic masterpieces up close without the usual daytime crowds.

The highlight of the evening was a fascinating panel discussion featuring some of the biggest names in the jewellery and fashion world. Moderated by #legend editor-in-chief Zaneta Cheng, the discussion included legendary Chinese jewellery artist and sculptor Wallace Chan, Sotheby’s Hong Kong Head of Sale, High Jewelry Uni Kim, Schiaparelli’s Head of Heritage and Culture Francesco Pastore, and HKPM Deputy Director and Chief Curator Dr. Daisy Wang.

Together, the speakers talked about how jewellery is one of the world’s oldest and most meaningful art forms. They explained that wearing jewellery is about much more than just decoration. It is a way to express who we are, break down cultural or gender barriers, and connect different civilisations throughout history. Looking at everything from ancient history to modern styles, the panel agreed that jewellery is still a powerful way for people from different cultures to inspire one another.

The night was made even more special with live musical performances. The USC Thornton Chamber Singers and the Diocesan Boys’ School Saxophone Quartet played throughout the Museum’s South Atrium. Their music created a chic, welcoming atmosphere where guests could mingle, connect and enjoy the night.

This successful opening night sets a wonderful example for the HKPM Cultural Salon series. Each new edition will offer a themed, after-hours evening inspired by the Museum’s latest exhibitions. This project is a big step forward in the Museum’s goal to make Hong Kong a global hub where world history and art are celebrated and reimagined for the future.

The special exhibition “Treasures of Global Jewellery from The Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Body Transformed” is open at Gallery 8 of the Hong Kong Palace Museum until October 19, 2026. It is definitely worth a visit if you love history and art. Also, stay tuned for details on their next Cultural Salon.
