Fashion’s most anticipated red carpet event is dress-coded “The Garden of Time” – a referral to JG Ballard’s 1962 short story
Co-chaired by Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and Zendaya, alongside Anna Wintour, the gala showcases the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibition where “clothing and fashion so fragile that it can’t ever be worn again – and are thus sleeping beauties in the scrupulous archives of the Costume Institute,” according to Vogue. La La Anthony, Ashley Graham, Gwendoline Christie, and Emma Chamberlain were co-hosts of the evening.
The Garden of Time tells the story of Count Axel and his wife living in a magnificent villa surrounded by a garden of crystal flowers when an angry and unruly army advances upon them. To keep the “approaching rabble” at bay and with time running out, Axel must turn back time by plucking the flowers – one by one – until they are all gone.
As such, we expected to see a lot of florals on the red carpet – however, the range of the theme’s interpretation was up for grabs. Check out some of the amazing looks donned by A-listers of the year as they showed off their take on The Garden of Time.
