Fabergé x Game of Thrones dragon-themed collection at K S Sze & Sons

One of the world’s most bespoke jewellery artistry meets epic fiction saga in the form of Fabergé x Game of Thrones High Jewellery collection – Chapter One: Dragon. K S Sze & Sons proudly present this capsule collection at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong

Right in time to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, two forces in entertainment and high jewellery have teamed up to create one of the most exquisite sets of dragon-themed collections in recent times.

Fabergé launched a Game of Thrones collection where the mythological mascot of the novel takes centre stage. Based on the multi-award-winning television series, Game of Thrones, Fabergé partnered with Michele Clapton, the Emmy and BAFTA-winning costume designer for this hit show. The Chapter One: Dragon collection comprises new creations that are rare pieces of history in the making, set to delight fans, fusing the jeweller’s artistic ingenuity with fashion modernity rarely walked by historical jewellers.

“The Fabergé x Game of Thrones ‘Dragon’ High Jewellery capsule collection presents different aspects of the mythical creatures, and documents their journey… the crescendo of Chapter One: Dragon is a design which spotlights a row of diamonds and rubies which metaphorically burst into flames, showcasing that the dragons are back and full of life”, Fabergé’s head of design, Lisa Tallgren, shares.

There are several standout pieces, such as the Fabergé x Game of Thrones white and rose gold ruby and diamond Dragon Skeleton wrap ring. It is described as “a perfect mix of fierce and feminine, just like Daenerys”. With pear-cut Gemfields Mozambican ruby radiating alongside diamond spikes which mimics the dragon wing wrapping around, and the dragon itself protectively arching over the finger, the stunning visual this ring provides draws attention whichever way your hand moves.

Fabergé x Game of Thrones White Gold and Diamond Dragon Bones Ring

A personal favourite of this writer is the White Gold and Diamond Dragon Bones Ring, which when worn fits around the finger and knuckle in the most natural way. Resembling the skeleton spine of a grand reptilian but also somewhat reminiscent of creatures from the 1979 sci-fi film Alien, this ring on any finger is not only eye-catching but quickly draws attention to its intricate craftsmanship.

But the highlight in the set must be the white and rose gold ruby and diamond Dragon ear cuff. Priced at HK$1,115,400 (US$142,627) this is a rare piece with pear-cut Gemfields Mozambican rubies, pink sapphires, and diamond spikes that mimic the dragon wing wrapping around the ear, and is predominantly crafted from 18k white gold.

This intricate collection is on display and available at one of Hong Kong’s oldest jewellery brands, K S Sze & Sons, which found its home at the Mandarin Oriental in Central.

This family-owned jewellery business celebrated its 101st birthday this year and counts the late Princess Diana and Charlie Chaplin among its illustrious patrons. The jewellery store opened its boutique inside the Mandarin Oriental in 1963. The brand was initially founded in Shanghai. Today, his granddaughter, Camille Sze, is heading this proud and bespoke enterprise and bringing it into a new era as the company president.

“At the heart of K S Sze & Sons is a love of Hong Kong’s spirit as a people,” says Sze, who jumpstarted her career in leading the family business from the US and who returned to Hong Kong last year to further this century-old brand. “There was no better way to kick off 2024, our 101st year in business, with a lion dance of our own. Through our friends at Fabergé, we are proud to bring their sensational Game of Thrones High Jewellery Collection to Hong Kong for the very first time ever.”

The collection is available at the K S Sze & Sons’ boutique at the Mandarin Oriental until the end of the Lunar New Year.
