“…For Van Cleef & Arpels, spring is never just a season. It is a state of renewal, a fleeting moment when nature awakens and everything feels quietly alive again. The Lucky Spring collection captures this vitality through its emblematic motifs, from ladybirds and plum blossoms to lily of the valley, now joined by the butterfly, drifting into the story with effortless grace…”

A symbol woven into the Maison’s history since 1906, the butterfly is reimagined in yellow gold with a painterly sense of colour. Blue agate washes across the upper wings, while lapis lazuli deepens the lower half into a velvety midnight tone. Green agate traces the foliage with a fresh, luminous clarity, set against the soft glow of white mother-of-pearl, carved into floral silhouettes that shimmer with an almost weightless iridescence.

Each stone is selected with exacting precision for its clarity and chromatic balance, allowing shades of blue and green to unfold in quiet gradation. The signature double beaded contour frames each motif, catching the light and lending the composition a refined sense of depth.

New creations in yellow gold expand the collection, including a long necklace, bracelet, Between the Finger ring, clip and earrings. The long necklace feels particularly alive, its butterflies suspended along the chain in a rhythm that suggests motion rather than placement. There is a subtle asymmetry here, an intentional lightness that mirrors the spontaneity of nature itself.

The narrative extends into watchmaking with the Lady Lucky Spring Butterfly from the Poetic Complications collection, where time is transformed into something almost cinematic. A deep blue guilloché mother-of-pearl dial sets the stage for yellow gold branches and white mother-of-pearl blossoms, while diamonds punctuate the composition with a restrained brilliance.

Driven by a self-winding movement with retrograde minutes and jumping hours, the butterfly glides slowly across the dial before returning, precisely on the hour, to begin again. It is a quiet choreography of time, echoing the rhythm of the seasons.

No longer merely decorative, the butterfly emerges as a symbol of transformation, and life in motion. In the universe of Van Cleef & Arpels, it moves with ease between heritage and modernity, where nature and high jewellery merge as one.
