Following the sensational announcement that BamBam (Kunpimook Bhuwakul) of GOT7 will jet off to the 2026 Cannes Film Festival for the world premiere of the Thai horror epic Confessions of a Shaman, we invite you to explore the dark heart of this production. We delve into the haunting narrative, BamBam’s enigmatic role, and the hidden depths of this cinematic spectacle.
The 79th Cannes Film Festival returns to the iconic Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in France from 12–23 May 2026. Established in 1946, it remains the world’s most prestigious and influential cinematic event. Here, global masterpieces compete for the Palme d’Or, an accolade often hailed as the Nobel Prize of cinema.
Among the Thai contingent making waves this year, Confessions of a Shaman stands out. Adapted from a spine-chilling tale on The Ghost Radio—the go-to late-night companion for office workers—and originally shared by the storyteller Kru Tree, the film transports us 30 years into the past. We follow Tor (played by Alek Teeradetch Metawarayut), a former monk whose world shatters following his mother’s death. Abandoning his spiritual path, he plunges into the murky shadows of the occult.
Tor seeks mentorship from Arjan Tian (played by Shakrit Yamnam), a mysterious sorcerer master of dark incantations and Hong Prai spirits. Driven by vengeance, Tor masters the forbidden arts, descending into a life of supernatural hire-for-remuneration and cold-blooded satisfaction. However, as his power grows, so does a terrifying corruption within. He soon discovers that inheriting his master’s magic means inheriting a fatal curse. A desperate struggle for survival between master and apprentice ensues, leading to a final, harrowing confession before his last breath.

While the synopsis and teaser already promise a gripping experience, a major surprise awaits. In a historic collaboration, M STUDIO, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Commerce have orchestrated a monumental moment for Thai ‘Soft Power.’ They are sending BamBam to Cannes as a special representative and cameo performer, alongside lead actor Alek Teeradetch. Though his specific role remains a closely guarded secret, BamBam’s presence at such a prestigious global forum marks a bold new chapter for the Thai entertainment industry.
