#obsessed: Top picks from Boucheron, New Balance x Miu Miu, Joyce Wang Studio, and more

This month, #legend is #obsessed with the latest from Boucheron, New Balance x Miu Miu, Joyce Wang Studio, Van Cleef & Arpels, Quiet Gallery, and Penfolds

Badges of honour

High jewellery and high fashion often go hand in hand, but at Boucheron the connection is particularly strong given that the maison’s founder, Frédéric Boucheron, grew up surrounded by silk and lace due to his father’s work as a draper. This history helped inspire the 24 designs in The Power of Couture, creative director Claire Choisne’s latest Histoire de Style collection that offers a sophisticated new approach to the concept of ceremonial ornaments. “I decided to deconstruct the symbols of power to reappropriate them,” says Choisne. “This collection is designed like a precious kit that may be worn in a multitude of ways.”

Balancing act

First launched in 1992, the New Balance 530 has long been a cult sneaker lovers’ favourite. Now the high-performance running shoe is the focus of a new collaboration between the footwear brand and Italian fashion house Miu Miu. Presented in an intimate and playful campaign starring Peris Adolwi, Julie Hoomans and Florine Wildeboer, the 530 SL (because it’s “super light”) takes the 530 and deconstructs it, reinventing proportions with the introduction of an ultra-flat sole. It’s offered in two versions, one in distressed suede in a warm, natural colour palette and the other in unprocessed suede and mesh in classic black and white.

High steaks

A great meal becomes even better when enjoyed in a beautiful setting, and few understand that better than Joyce Wang Studio. The award-winning international design practice was tapped to create the interiors for Dario Cecchini’s famed steakhouse, Carna, which recently made its Asia debut at Mondrian Hong Kong. Taking inspiration from Roman architecture and typology, the warm and inviting space features layers of earthy pinkish-red hues, domed arches, silk chenille patterns and medieval tapestry textiles along with limestone, Roman vein-cut travertine and Amarone burgundy marble to complement Cecchini’s nose-to-tail cuisine.

Spring blooms

Spring arrives on March 19 and with it not only new beginnings and the return of warmer days but also five radiant new pieces in Van Cleef & Arpels’ Frivole jewellery collection. Including a white gold 7 flowers bracelet, a Between the Finger ring in rose gold, and an 8 flowers ring that presents a dialogue between rose and white gold, each piece pays tribute to the vitality of nature and is designed to illuminate the skin with its sunny glow. To illustrate the poetic world of the Frivole collection, the maison turned to French artist Alexandre Benjamin Navet who designed a verdant setting with slender flowers and other decorative elements.

Bird by bird

Belowground’s Quiet Gallery is currently hosting the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong for Huang Shiang, an emerging artist and the artistic director of the MindSlow Workroom who is currently based in Taiwan’s Taichung City. I Still Hope You Like It showcases Huang’s latest artworks revolving around the concept of “Lady with Bird” – inspired by her love of birds – and takes viewers on an imaginative and emotional journey through art. The exhibition, which runs until March 10, also explores the relationships between humans and nature, as well as between people themselves, through various mediums such as painting and ceramics.

Grape minds

In a momentous milestone for the 180-year-old winemaker, Penfolds has released the first-ever design takeover of its flagship wine. Grange by NIGO showcases the Human Made creative director’s signature style, featuring a bold and colourful grape graphic and Penfolds logo reimagined through Human Made’s iconic typography. The special release includes a collectable gift box to house Penfolds 2019 Grange. With only 1,650 in the world, each box is individually numbered and includes a bandana and bottle neck tag designed by NIGO, plus an authenticity certificate. It’s available in Hong Kong at Watson’s Wine and Oliver’s The Delicatessen.
