Gucci’s love story with New York City started over 70 years ago on Fifth Avenue, but last night, the fashion house wrote another of its wild chapter in New York. Demna took over the centre of the city, staging the highly anticipated Gucci Cruise 2027 show right in the middle of a neon-lit Times Square. The massive digital screens and flashing billboards served as the ultimate high-energy backdrop

This major show marked the launch of GucciCore, a permanent, changing collection of everyday, wearable pieces that form the foundation of Gucci’s new look. It takes classic Italian glamour and mixes it with the raw, real energy of New York City. Instead of traditional models, the clothes were shown on the kinds of people you might pass on any regular street corner, each bringing their own personal attitude to the runway.

The collection took inspiration from artist Robert Longo’s famous Men in the Cities photo series, which captures people in business suits frozen in sharp, high-energy movements. This office-meets-chaos vibe meant the show was dominated by a black-to-dark color palette, but made interesting through experimental textures. Demna blended his signature edgy style with classic Gucci details. He turned the classic 1950s red-and-green web stripe into a trendy bandeau top.

Even though many of the outfits played with goth vibes, see-through fabrics and heavy leather, the collection was still unmistakably Gucci thanks to beautiful floral patterns and fluffy statement coats.

The models walking the runway were absolute legends. Supermodel Anok Yai turned heads in a look that covered her from head to toe in a black, snake-like fabric. In a historic moment, icon Cindy Crawford made her runway walk for Gucci in a black feather gown. Meanwhile, Paris Hilton brought a fun pop of color in Look 36, strutting out in a bright yellow floral dress, a giant Gucci belt and a fluffy black coat with a hidden floral lining inside.

The front row was just as star-studded as the flashing billboards above. Mariah Carey, Kim Kardashian, Shawn Mendes and more, were all spotted arriving in the middle of the city chaos, alongside Chinese actor Zhang Linghe, who added a sleek, modern edge to the star-filled night.
