There’s so much more to crop tops than a bare midriff. The abbreviated tops have become the ideal match for skirt sets, the perfect silhouette for balancing out the proportions of an oversized shirt, and a great counterpart to a high-waist pant. A cropped tank or T-shirt will never fall out of fashion. But look to styles that go beyond the basic – think chic details like ruched cut-outs and dainty straps, and interesting textures like broderie anglaise or denim.

Patchwork has made a comeback. Whether quilted, patched or panelled, it’s a homespun aesthetic that feels just right for the mood of autumn. Ease into the trend with accessories or more subtle options like this blue and white colour-block shirt from JW Anderson. Or, bring patchwork to the fore with eccentric pieces such as Feng Chen Wang’s distressed denim jeans.
