The World’s 50 Best Restaurants recently released their 2017 list, and the list includes various new entries and re-entries to the list. Coming in at number #1, the world and North America’s best restaurant is the Eleven Madison Park in New York. The restaurant’s food is described as a New Yorker’s twist on modern European, with their standout dish being their honey lavender roasted duck. Praised for its outstanding hospitality, setting and food— co-owners Will Guidara and Chef Daniel Humm have dedicated their lives to crafting a world-class restaurant experience.
#legend’s hometown: Hong Kong, has also made the list at rank #24 with Amber. Led by Chef Richard Ekkebus, the restaurant serves French cuisine in the famous Landmark Mandarin Oriental. Amber is also the only restaurant from Hong Kong to have made it onto the World’s 50 Best list.
Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy dropped from last year’s top position to come in at #2 this year. The restaurant was also given the Best Restaurant in Europe award. Their style of food is described as contemporary Italian, and its food is widely regarded as inventive. Chef Massimo Bottura experiments with local ingredients in traditional Italian dishes. Outside of this project, Bottura is passionate about politics and runs a non-profit charity that aims to fight hunger and food waste.

Coming in at #3, the famous Roca Brother’s El Celler De Can Roca has been praised for its unique familial touch, exquisite walk-in cellar, wine, and its complex take on Catalan cuisine. It also achieved the Ferrari Trento Art of Hospitality Award.
Central, based in Lima, Peru, which also won Best Restaurant in South America, was ranked #5 on the list. Gaggan in Bangkok, Thailand, which also won Best Restaurant in Asia, was ranked at #7. Attica in Melbourne, awarded Best Restaurant in Australasia, came in at #32.
The Highest Climber Award, sponsored by Lavazza, is given to Blue Hill at Stone Barns, based in Pocantico Hills, USA. The ambitious restaurant climbed up 37 ranks, jumping from last year’s #48 to #11 this year.
The Highest New Entry Award, sponsored by Aspire Lifestyles, is given to the highest ranked restaurant that is new to the list. Alléno Paris au Pavillon Ledoyen in Paris, France, ranked at #31, claimed the award.
Other notable restaurants also made the list, with Singapore’s Restaurant André coming in at rank #14 and Denmark’s Geranium, based in Copenhagen.
