Watches and Wonders 2024: The tourbillon takes centre stage at Roger Dubuis

Known for what the house dubs hyper horology, Roger Dubuis is constantly pushing the boundaries of the craft. Building upon the rich history and know-how of haute horology, the watchmaker focuses on driving its novelties this year with one particular complication

Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon

The tourbillon is at the heart of all four of its new references this year. The 200-year-old complication first created to defy gravity’s impact on the timepiece’s accuracy is expressed through wholly contemporary aesthetics at the Maison this year.

Among the novelties presented this year are the Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillion and the bejewelled Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon.

Riding the bejewelled bezel trend, the Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon is clad in 108 gems.

As the name of the piece hunts, the gemset evokes that of dusk– sapphires set around the bezel from brown to yellow to create an ombré effect.

Yellow sapphires in the same colourway adorn a start emblem signature to the brand on the top half of the skeletonised dial. A regulating differential linking the double flying tourbillon gives the piece 72 hours of power reserve. Positioned across the bottom half of the dial, the twin tourbillons play a visually stunning backdrop to the hour and minute hands. The watch is limited to only eight pieces.

Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon

Titanium’s light weight makes it an ideal material for creating elaborate watch designs. It naturally lends itself to a more comfortable and practical wear. Roger Dubuis has long favoured the material, especially when used in its robust and bold designs. The 42mm Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon featuring a matching link bracelet in titanium is one such design that benefits from the robust yet lightweight properties of the alloy.

The 40.5 mm case houses a manual winding movement with a 72-hour power reserve. A tourbillon sits at 7 o’clock embedded in a fully skeletonised dial, a design that goes to further shave down the weight of the piece.

The skeletonised tourbillon is presented in a limited run of 28 pieces.
