World’s Most Flawless Pink Diamond Returns to Market

The Pink Star

Sotheby’s has announced that one of the world’s most precious diamonds, The Pink Star, will return to auction in Hong Kong on April 4. The 59.60-carat gem is estimated to be worth over HK$468 million, and is the largest ever, internally flawless, coloured diamond.

The 59.60-carat diamond is expected to fetch over HK$468 million at auction

“The extraordinary size of this 59.60-carat diamond, paired with its richness of colour, surpasses any known pink diamond recorded in history” says David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s Jewellery division. The oval-shaped, mixed cut diamond has received the highest colour and clarity grades from the Gemological Institute of America, and has been classified as a Type IIa diamond, a rare subgroup of chemically pure makeup and extraordinary optical transparency. It took over two years of meticulous carving and polishing to transform the 132.5-carat rough diamond into the stunning treasure it is today.
