Everyone loves the ‘70s, whether they personally lived through it or not. So what could be more fun and groovy than a new luxury watch collection that takes us back in time to the disco glam era? Introducing the all-new ladies’ Richard Mille RM 71-02 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman collection, which is made up of 10 colourful new models that capture the disco era in all its glitzy glory.

The 10 watch models (named Bianca, Carmen, Diana, Donna, Gloria, Grace, Jane, Jessica, Liz and Paloma) are available in a limited edition of seven pieces for a total of 70 watches – each featuring its own daring, unique and colourful combination of stones. From tsavorites, spessartites and amethysts to diamonds, spinels, rubies and sapphires, each watch in the RM 71-02 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman collection is meant to bring out unique energies from the stones, alongside their geometric motifs.

For instance, lapis lazuli is associated with better vision, pink opal with healing and hematite with strength – as fans of crystal healing would know. An exercise in patience, each of the combinations took more than six months to perfect due to the unique nature of each stone.

“The intense glamour of the disco era resided in a multiplication of colours and textures,” explained Cécile Guenat, creative and development director at Richard Mille. “Working with the stones themselves proved to be a considerable challenge because stones of very similar hues can end up looking completely different depending on their size and the type of setting.”

While each of the 10 models in the RM 71-02 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman collection carry a different arrangement of stones, setting pattern, engraving and decoration of the thickness dial, they do have one thing in common: the CRMT1 calibre.

As Richard Mille fans would know, this is the luxury watchmaker’s eighth in-house movement but first automatic tourbillon calibre, which took 1,000 hours to develop – coming in at 6.2 mm thick and weighing just eight grams.
