In the fiercely competitive world of women’s golf, Jeeno-Atthaya Thitikul has become one of the sport’s most compelling names to watch. With outstanding performances and rapid progression, she rose to World No. 1 at just 19, inspiring a new generation in Thailand and across the globe.

Her journey began at an early age, where she quickly demonstrated exceptional talent. She made history as the youngest amateur to win a professional event on the Ladies European Tour—a milestone that not only marked the beginning of her rise but also signalled her immense potential.

This is the story of “Jeeno”, a Thai golfer who has reached the pinnacle of the sport and continues to carve out new chapters in golfing history.

Starting Golf at the Age of Six

Jeeno-Atthaya Thitikul began playing golf at just six years old. She has shared in interviews that, as a child, she suffered from allergies, prompting her family to encourage sport to build her strength. She chose golf for its independence and flexibility—it allowed her to practise at any time without excessive physical strain.

Despite the long journeys from Ratchaburi to Bangkok for training, and the high cost of equipment, she and her family remained fully committed to her ambition. She saw golf not only as a passion but also as a way to one day support her family. Through consistent dedication, she claimed numerous junior titles between the ages of 10 and 14, before rising to World No. 1 in 2022 at just 19 years old.

First Thai Rolex Testimonee

In 2023, Rolex named Atthaya Thitikul its first-ever Thai Testimonee, placing her among global sporting icons such as Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, Roger Federer and Coco Gauff.

Her exceptional talent and consistent performances at the top level have marked her as one of golf’s most promising stars. Composed and resilient under pressure, she became the second-youngest player to reach World No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and has remained a frequent presence in the top 10 in recent seasons. She capped off 2024 in style by winning the prestigious CME Group Tour Championship.

A belief in Work–life Balance

Thitikul firmly believes that sustaining peak performance requires balance. Once convinced that more practice always led to better results, she later recognised the toll it took on her health. She now understands that constant focus on work can lead to both physical exhaustion and mental burnout.

As a result, she has reshaped her approach—committing fully during training, and equally prioritising rest and recovery. By doing so, she maintains a healthy balance between body and mind, allowing her to perform at her best over the long term.

Turning Disappointment into Motivation

At the 2021 Honda LPGA Thailand, Jeeno-Atthaya Thitikul fell short against Ariya “May” Jutanugarn. The defeat left her deeply disappointed, even bringing her to tears. Yet rather than dwell on the setback, she transformed that emotion into motivation. She came to believe that the title simply was not meant for her at that moment.

Determined to improve, she focused on gaining experience and returned to competition with renewed purpose—ultimately achieving her goal of becoming World No. 1.

However, reaching the top brought new challenges. At first, she felt the weight of expectation, putting pressure on herself to deliver results and maintain her standards. A three-month break due to injury, though, proved pivotal. It reminded her that golf is, above all, what she truly loves. Results became secondary; what mattered most was her ability to play freely and find genuine happiness in the game.
