Shortly after the very successful launch of the Air Jordan 1 OG Dior sneakers, Kim Jones is about to unveil his latest collection for the Dior Summer 2021 Men’s collection.
For this digital season, Jones has invited Vienna-based, Ghana-born painter Amoako Boafoto collaborate with his distinctive works of art into the latest collection.
Having just turned 36 years old, Boafo is currently living and creating in his hometown of Accra, Ghana. First discovered by Roberts Projects Gallery in Los Angeles, his most-wanted series of contemporary portraiture, “The black diaspora” highlights and celebrates his identity and Blackness in bold, gestural brushstrokes, mixing in the African diaspora and black figures into a traditional style of European portraiture.
The recurring palettes of Boafo’s colorful speckled patterns and prints can perhaps be reimagined in Dior this season, replacing the infamous Dior Oblique.
It will be interesting to see how the artistic chemistry of Boafa and Jones reflects on #Dior2021 in a dynamic and novel fashion. Check out a preview above and tune in to the presentation of the Dior Summer 2021 Men’s Collection produced by video artist Chris Cunningham at 2:30pm, Paris time (8:30pm HKT).
