Afa Lee is a visual artist and model based in Hong Kong, renowned for her unique approach to art that intertwines themes of solitude, connection, and feminism. Born and raised in Hong Kong, she graduated with honours in Visual Communication from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Initially working as an art director in advertising, Lee transitioned to a full-time career as an illustrator and artist, where she has gained recognition for her distinctive style that blends unsettling imagery with a playful aesthetic. Her work draws inspiration from a diverse array of influences, including the surrealism of Salvador Dalí and the emotional depth of Louise Bourgeois. Lee describes her art as “disturbing but with a candy coating,” reflecting her exploration of complex human emotions and societal themes. She has become a prominent figure in the local art scene, actively contributing to the cultural dialogue in a city often characterized by its commercialism. As an artist, Lee believes in the transformative power of art to foster connection and healing, particularly in the wake of Hong Kong’s recent social upheavals. Her partnership with JPS Gallery marks a significant step in her career, as Lee continues to advocate for the recognition and support of local artists.
