Slides, mules, slippers, flip-flops… the possibilities are endless. As the weather in Hong Kong slowly warms up, it’s time to book those pedis to prepare for open-toe season. Last summer, we were all about the ‘barely there sandal’ – something seamless and thin-strapped for a barefoot appeal. For SS21, chunkier styles are back – often with a one or two-inch platform. To help you stay on-trend, here are seven sandals to slip into this summer:

The Row Ginza Sandal

Arguably the sandal that kickstarted the trend – the Ginza sandal from The Row has been back-ordered since last summer and are now back in a big way. These leather-soled sandals are inspired by traditional Japanese sandals and can be worn with just about anything. Think soft, linen summer tailoring, knit separates or even something as casual as a T-shirt with jean shorts. If you weren’t lucky enough to get your hands on them last year, this is definitely the time.

If you haven’t heard of Gia Couture’s sandals, you surely will soon. The Italian footwear label has recently launched a collaboration with actress and model, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and the result? A capsule collection filled with desirable yet easy-to-wear designs that can take you from day to night. These suede and leather sandals feature a crossover ankle strap with a modern buckle fastening, and will surely go with just about any summer dress.

Staud Tessa Kelly Croc Embossed Sandal

Chunky sandals don’t necessarily mean a thick strap, and these Tessa sandals from Staud are a case in point. Made with a custom comfort foam sole and Italian croc-embossed leather, these flip-flops feature a thinner strap and are great to pair with dresses or trousers with a lower hemline.

Leather, rope and leather-woven chain – these mix-material Chanel sandals are what summer dreams are made of. If mules and slip-ons aren’t your thing, these sandals with a heel fastening will be a better option for you. Slip these on under wide-legged trousers or big-volume summer dresses for a subtle pop of color.

Sacai Drawcord Interweb Lace-Up Sandals

If you haven’t invested in a pair of trekker-type sandals (think: Teva) this season, then you ought to, quick. Our prediction is that these Sacai sandals will be selling out soon. Featuring a sturdy rubber sole, wrap-around rope details, and fastenings inspired by mountaineering equipment, these sandals are everything we love about Chitose Abe’s designs – experimental, playful, and downright cool.
