Yayoi Kusama x Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2012 limited edition bottles

Sep 10, 2020

It might not seem like there’s much to celebrate this year, but perhaps the new limited edition Yayoi Kusama x Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame champagne bottles will change your mind.

A collaboration between the French champagne house and Japanese avant-garde artist, the bottle aims to celebrate the new vintage (La Grande Dame 2012) while sending a cheerful message to the world with its unique and colourful design.

Kusama’s signature polka dots grace both the cuvee’s case and bottle – this time arranged as champagne bubbles – with a swirling flower motif that symbolises “vital energy, love and celebration of life,” according to the Veuve Clicquot website.

This isn’t the first collaboration between Yayoi Kusama and Veuve Clicquot. Back in 2006, the artist had given the original portrait of Madame Clicquot the Kusama treatment for a Tokyo charity auction, and comparisons between the artist and Madame Clicquot herself have been drawn ever since.

Kusama has also created a floral sculpture called ‘My Heart That Blooms in the Darkness of Night’ that wraps around the La Grande Dame 2012 bottle, which is available in a limited run of 100 pieces only.

The new limited edition Yayoi Kusama x Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame champagne bottles will launch on 23 September in Japan with a special pop-up at Isetan Shinjuku (23-29 September) and are priced at ¥25,740 (approx. HK$1,878) per bottle.
