This animated and musical take on the Charles Dickens classic is Netflix’s offering against those from other streaming platforms. It comes with new original music from Leslie Bricusse and features Luke Evans voicing the titular miser. This could be something fun to watch with family and/or friends over as it promises to be a “psychedelic, time-travelling and musical” interpretation.

Produced by rising UK animation house Timeless Films (Dragon Rider, Monster Family, Rock Dog) in association with Axis Studios.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio

Guillermo Del Toro’s version of the Italian children’s tale of a puppet that wants to be a real boy is said to be a darker take than the Disney classic. The stop-motion animation has an A-list heavy voice cast, as it stars Ewan McGregor, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, and Ron Perlman.

Guillermo del Toro has been attached to this project since 2008 so you know it’s quite a labour of love. It seems to have paid off as early reviews have been very positive.

Love her or hate her, the romantic comedy about the young marketing executive’s life in the city of romance has become one of Netflix’s biggest hits.

Season two ended on a cliffhanger, where it looked like Emily had just made up her mind whether or not to stay in Paris or head back to Chicago, driven by both personal and professional reasons. Many will be tuning in on 21 December to see what Emily does next.

Alice in Borderland – Season two

The world loves to watch shows where deadly games are played, and the stakes are high. Alice in Borderland has been held up against other giants of the survival game genre like Battle Royale, The Hunger Games and Squid Game. The fact that Netflix green-lighted the show for its second season just two weeks after its release in 2020 shows that it holds its own.

The Japanese science fiction thriller makes a comeback on December 22, two years after the first season. If you can’t wait, you can read the manga it is based on.

A Christmas gift from the streaming platform, this prequel to The Witcher series arrives on Christmas Day itself. Perhaps to soothe fans after the recent announcement that Liam Hemsworth would replace fan favourite Henry Cavill in the series.

The four-episode mini-series stars cinematic legend Michelle Yeoh as a sword-wielding elf. It is set 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher and will show the creation of the very first witcher, which are beast hunters with supernatural abilities.
