The Mikimoto jewellery collection draws inspiration from the rose petals dancing gracefully across Place Vendôme in Paris. Aimee Yan takes a closer look at the collection

The Les Pétales Place Vendôme Rosés collection is crafted in 18K rose gold, combined with Japanese Akoya pearls and diamonds. The edges of each petal are slightly undulating, as if gently lifted by the wind. Every curved surface is repeatedly polished to achieve a balance between “softness” and “light”. Actress Keiko Kitagawa wears the collection and wanders Place Vendôme, showing timeless elegance.

Mikimoto does not simply replicate the shape of petals but explores the feeling of “petals moving through the air”. The metal is given a sense of dynamic tension. As the light shifts, the jewellery reveals layers of reflection, reminiscent of the fleeting moment when sunlight brushes across a petal.

Each piece in the Rosés collection maintains the brand’s consistent sense of proportion. The pearls are not merely decorative, but serve as the structural core. Supported by the rose gold, they create a natural centre of gravity, allowing the overall lines to appear smooth and balanced.

In addition to the rose gold series, Mikimoto has also launched a white gold version of Les Pétales Place Vendôme. Compared with the gentle tones of Rosés, the white gold version is more restrained and serene. Diamonds are set along the edges of the petals, with meticulous craftsmanship to control the angle of light reflection, giving the overall appearance a purer visual clarity.

Mikimoto’s designs never rush to seek visual impact. When founder Kokichi Mikimoto successfully cultivated the world’s first cultured pearl in 1893, he established the brand’s philosophy of “beauty from within”. For over a century, the brand has continued to produce each creation with exacting standards of craftsmanship. The Les Pétales Place Vendôme Rosés collection continues to embody this enduring spirit.
