Watches and Wonders 2025: Oris Big Crown Pointer Date a blend of heritage and innovation

Oris brings a colourful transformation to this Big Crown Pointer Date collection
Since its debut in 1938, the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date has stood as a symbol of functional elegance, combining aviation-inspired design with everyday versatility. At this year’s Watches and Wonders, the house unveils new interpretations of this classic: the Big Crown Pointer Date, the Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 403. While these models share the same iconic DNA, they each offer a unique take on silhouette.
The latest iteration retains the signature elements that made the original a pilot’s favourite—oversized crown, date integrated into the indices and indicated by a pointed hand, and clean legibility—while introducing updates that enhance its wearability and style.
The Big Crown Pointer Date was initially created for early aviators. It features a large crown designed for easy grip with gloves and a pointer date function for quick readability. The 2025 model stays true to this DNA with a larger 40 mm case, a size that nods vintage charm yet resonates with modern proportions. The domed sapphire crystal, mirroring the acrylic glass of early models, adds a touch of retro flair while providing superior scratch resistance.
The dial remains refreshingly simple, with applied Arabic numerals and sword-shaped hands, but with the signature pointer date around the railway track index. In both references, the pointer date mechanism—a complication Oris has perfected over decades—remains a standout feature, providing a distinctive alternative to traditional date windows.

New for this year is a refined colour palette, including deep green and terracotta for the Calibre 403 and yellow, lilac, or blue for the Big Crown Pointer Date. The signature red arrow indicating the date is swapped out for tone-on-tone ones to match the different-coloured dials.
Powering the Big Crown Date is the Oris Calibre 754, a robust automatic movement based on the Sellita SW200-1. It is known for reliability and offers a 38-hour power reserve and a smooth 4Hz beat rate. The Big Crown Pointer Date pairs a stainless steel bracelet.
The Big Crown Date Calibre 403 shares a similar silhouette. Besides the iconic pointer hand indication, the Calibre 403 reference features a small seconds indication across a sub-dial positioned at 6 o’clock. The automatic timepiece has a power reserve of 122 hours. The pieces are paired with a brown leather strap or a matching stainless steel bracelet.
The ergonomic case design ensures comfort for both references, while the 50m water resistance makes it suitable for daily wear.
