Watches and Wonders 2022: Parmigiani launches new Tonda PF references

May 10, 2022

Parmigiani celebrates the Tonda PF with two new references that highlight the Maison’s watchmaking know-how

Last year, Parmigiani celebrated a quarter-century of the Tonda PF with a number of new references. Continuing to build on this iconic design, the watchmaker presents several Tonda PF novelties at this year’s Watches and Wonders. Among the two most eyecatching are the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante and the Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon.

The Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante is a world first by Parmigiani. It features a second timezone displayed across two superimposed hour hands with a split function. The sleek dial features textured engraving in blue and understated baton hour markers. The central hour and minute hands are crafted in rhodium-plated gold while the GMT hand is differentiated by its rose gold hue.

The ingenious design of these two timezone watch allows the home time, represented by the rose gold hand, to appear or remind hidden behind the rhodium local time hour hand simply by triggering the pusher at 8 o’clock. This mechanism lends an elegant simplicity to the dial when the second time zone display is not needed.

The case and bracelet are crafted in stainless steel, while the pusher that triggers the GMT hand is fashioned in rose gold to match the hands. The 40 mm case houses an automatic movement with 48 hours of power reserve.

Another highlight from Parmigiani this year is the Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon. Again, the watchmaker has expressed the complication elegantly across the dial; an aperture at 7 o’clock reveals the flying tourbillon. The off-centred design lends the piece an engaging visual stimulation while allowing the dial to remain overall clean and sleek.

The piece’s case, dial and bracelet are crafted entirely out of platinum with contrasted created through the brushed and polished finishes. The in-house automatic calibre PF517 powers the hour and minute hands plus bring life to the flying tourbillon.

A discreet expression of watchmaking at the highest level, the timepiece is limited to just 25 pieces.
