“…As the year draws to a close, the festive atmosphere, glowing with lights, warmth and anticipation, is elevated to new heights as Paul Smith joins forces with the Royal Opera House. Together, they unveil an exquisite Christmas experience centred around a spectacular tree that feels as though it has been lifted straight from a grand theatrical production. The installation takes pride of place within the Paul Hamlyn Hall, one of the most breathtaking spaces in this historic landmark…”

Standing at over 18 feet tall and more than 8 feet wide, the magnificent tree is set upon a wooden base surrounded by ropes, tassels, green velvet drapery, miniature instruments, fans, candlesticks and an array of props inspired by legendary performances. These elements intertwine beautifully with Paul Smith’s iconic Signature Stripe, bringing to life the concept of “Peek Behind the Curtains”. Conceived by Sir Paul Smith, the idea pays homage to the creative talents working behind the scenes. From set designers to backstage teams, capturing the vitality and hidden charm of the Royal Opera House in a deeply poetic manner.

Beyond its striking scale, the installation delights with an array of minute details that invite closer inspection. Hidden among the branches are miniature figures of skiers and ice skaters, adding a touch of whimsy. The tree also reimagines the art of “gift wrapping” through a playful lens, featuring unexpected objects wrapped in limited-edition Paul Smith gift paper from the 2025 stationery collection, each one a story waiting to be unwrapped.

The sense of craftsmanship continues into the Davies Terrace, where a collection of trees appears to emerge dramatically from wooden prop crates. Each crate is lined with Signature Stripe in a clever interplay of layers and textures, accompanied by handwritten festive messages from Sir Paul Smith himself, small but meaningful gestures that heighten the feeling of warmth and personal connection during the season.

This collaboration marks the first union between two of Britain’s most iconic institutions, fashion and the performing arts, both bound by a shared belief in storytelling and the power of inspiration found in everyday moments. Their creative worlds converge with remarkable harmony, reflecting a distinctly British character that is both timeless and contemporary.
It is also a celebration of the long-standing relationship between Paul Smith and Covent Garden, home to the brand’s first London shop on Floral Street since 1979. Situated just steps away from the Royal Opera House, the two neighbours have grown side by side, united by a commitment to artistry, craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
