This season’s collections offered an elegant interpretation of workwear. Fabrics were lightweight but hard-wearing, pockets grew in both number and size, and technical details such as zips, buckles and belt fastenings were everywhere. The takeaway? It’s no longer enough for your clothes to look good – they have to do something, too.

Red really is the colour of the season. Hermès devoted, almost, its entire collection to it. Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci debut made liberal use of a shade he dubbed “Gucci Rosso”. McQueen’s pieces were inspired by the red rose of England. And Balmain’s collection blossomed with red rosebuds. Like Jasmine Yen, you can introduce pops of red. But the boldest way to wear this season’s hottest colour is head-to-toe.
