Nov 04, 2024
A new collaboration showcases a demountable structure designed for extreme conditions, blending art, architecture, and sustainable technology
In an ambitious partnership, Moncler and designer Rick Owens have introduced the Living Project, featuring a striking demountable mountain refuge. This latest creation draws inspiration from a Charlotte Perriand-designed lodge in the French Alps, signalling a unique fusion of art and functionality.
The refuge is constructed with a stainless steel monocoque shell comprising 20 thermally insulated panels, ensuring durability and temperature retention. Its innovative design includes adjustable stainless steel legs for stability on uneven terrain and an entry airlock to shield against harsh weather.
Sustainability is at the forefront of this project, with an energy system powered by integrated photovoltaic roof panels, supplemented by ground-based solar arrays and a wind turbine. The structure also features advanced water and waste systems, including snowmelt collection and greywater reclamation.
Owens has crafted a coordinated clothing collection to accompany the refuge, featuring soft organic cotton long johns and duvet body suits that transform into sleeping cocoons, reflecting his artistic vision of comfort in extreme environments.
Available from October 31 at select Moncler locations, this collaboration showcases cutting-edge design while inviting contemplation on the intersection of nature, art, and sustainable living.
