Bulgari reboots Omnia
Oct 27, 2023
Bulgari recently unveiled the radiant reboot of Omnia, one of its most emblematic fragrance collections, with a new design, campaign and ambassador. Stephenie Gee reports from the celebrations in Kuala Lumpur
Ever since the launch of Omnia in 2003, this Bulgari collection transforming the unique lustre of coloured gemstones and the most delicate flowers into precious drops of light has seen a myriad of interpretations, from ones of scent including spicy orientals, feminine florals and crisp citruses to collaborations like that with Mary Katrantzou – the Greek-born, London-based fashion designer known for creating some of the most colourful, maximalist prints and designs – who reimagined the Omnia universe as an optimistic and colourful dreamworld that awakens both your olfactory and visual senses.
Now, in an invitation to rediscover this iconic range, the Italian brand introduces a fresh chapter with the Reveal Your Light campaign. Featuring a new face – the American actress Cailee Spaeny, who most recently played the leading role in Sofia Coppola’s biopic Priscilla, based on the 1985 memoir Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley – redesigned flacon and packaging, the line, which comprises the Crystalline, Amethyste and Coral fragrances, is elevated to an unprecedented pinnacle of radiance. To celebrate, Bulgari took over the atrium at Kuala Lumpur’s Suria KLCC shopping centre for an exclusive presentation attended by the region’s Insta- famous – including Malaysian model Scha Al-Yahya and Thai actress “Linn” Mashannoad Suvanamas – dressed in their finest in shades of ivory, violet and coral to align with the perfume’s bottle.
Upon entering the bright white space – which from above resembled the sculptural Omnia bottle made up of two intertwining circles – guests posed for photos by the large Omnia installation backed by an LED screen projecting the campaign film and then visited the digital photo booth before Bulgari Parfum’s APAC managing director Hervé Debacque, among others, snipped a purple silk ribbon in an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. A familiar smell wafted through the crowd, growing stronger as we approached the centre of the exhibition where the brand’s olfactory achievements were on view.
Faithful to its original link design, which represents the symbol of infinity, the new translucent crystal-like flacon captures every single drop of light. Two rings smoothly flowing into one another through two detachable elements unveil the fragrance’s atomiser and introduce a new way to experience this iconic fragrance while an elegant rose-gold-coloured frame on the cap nods to Bulgari’s DNA as a jeweller.
This new face doesn’t totally abandon the original Omnia. The trio of inimitable scents signed by master perfumer Alberto Morillas – which attendees spritzed on wrists and misted on décolletages at the scent discovery corner – remain untouched. Evoking the purity and clarity of a crystal, Omnia Crystalline is a delicate aquatic scent that opens with fresh nashi pear and bamboo, before making way for a floral heart of lotus, complemented by woody notes on a musky dry down. Then, there’s Omnia Amethyste, a powdery, floral scent comprised of a dew-drenched blend of rose and iris that captures the soft shine and noble refinement of amethyst. Finally, Omnia Coral brings to life the luminous energy of the vibrant gem with bright, juicy notes like bergamot, goji berries, pomegranate and hibiscus.
After a spin around the exhibition, guests were transported to the WET Deck, stacked on the 12th
floor of the adjacent W Kuala Lumpur, where the after- party was underway. While a DJ served up a galvanising set, guests mingled, sipped on cocktails inspired by the perfume’s notes, and nibbled on hors d’oeuvres under the glow of violet-hued lights and the brilliantly illuminated Petronas Twin Towers that towered over us.
As the night came to an end, all walked away into the whirring, twinkling city night with an equally sparkling bottle of the new Omnia.
