To celebrate the Year of the Horse, Hublot has introduced a limited edition timepiece – the Spirit of Big Bang Frosted Carbon
Limited to just 88 pieces, the timepiece showcases carbon like never before. The dial’s marquetry is sculpted, layered and finished entirely by hand. It makes for a technical and artistic statement that sees Hublot innovation fuse with the cultural strength of the Dragon-Horse spirit.
“This creation embodies our drive to innovate beyond convention. With the Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse, we turn carbon and gold into sculpted art and symbolism into engineering precision. Every detail is deliberate, from the hand-laid carbon marquetry to the gold occlusions. We master materials the way we master time, in a limitless way,” stated Hublot CEO, Julien Tornare.
The most eye-catching part of the watch is of course, the dial. It showcases a flower-dappled horse outlined in gold, its mane caught in the middle of movement. The dial’s hand-laid carbon marquetry with 3N gold-plated brass appliqués is inspired by Tang-dynasty artistry. The 3-dimensional gold lines that recall the embroidery on ancient Chinese ceremonial robes, give the horse a powerful presence.
The Dragon-Horse spirit’s motion on the dial reflects the watch’s powerful HUB1710 movement. This robust calibre offers consistent precision and a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.
To make the dial, every carbon fragment is cut, aligned and assembled by hand. The 42 mm tonneau-shaped case is crafted in matte black carbon. It is further enhanced with a matching black lacquer base, black calf-rubber strap, as well as a smoked sapphire caseback.
This unique combination of carbon marquetry, gold detailing and a lacquer finishing makes for another memorable edition to Hublot’s commemorative watches for the Lunar New Year, which has been a tradition since 2016. The Year of the Horse edition is sure to keep the spirit of the horse flowing on your wrist and in your life.
