Wil Fang’s watch collection
Jan 20, 2025
Cookie DPT founder Wil Fang’s timepiece collection is an exercise in understated aesthetics. In addition to hours, minutes and seconds, these watches display something that we’d all be well served to remember: in timekeeping as in life, sometimes less is more
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Panda
Since my day-to-day colour palette is typically black and white, the Panda is a great watch for any occasion when I want to mix things up a bit. I like its distinct contrast while still having a simple, understated aesthetic. It’s versatile enough to pair with a tailored suit or just style with a crisp T-shirt and jeans.
Tudor Black Bay 58 Bronze
Every now and then I like to go with a more neutral palette with subtle earth tones, and when I do this is the perfect watch with its bronze bezel and face. I’ve opted to use the olive fabric strap instead of the bronze bracelet to keep it more casual. The watch is a great conversation starter too, since the colour combination isn’t so common.
Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5711
An easy choice for most watch enthusiasts and it makes my list because it’s such a highly coveted watch that collectors at any level can appreciate. Personally, I love the sleek design and unorthodox bezel shape, but it’s also refined in a way where it doesn’t call so much attention and can be a very subtle statement piece for those who know. One day, I hope to add one of these to my collection.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding
This was my first AP, so it holds a special place in my heart. It’s also the first watch I purchased after starting my first business, so it was particularly rewarding as a token of all the hard work put in over the years. Many collectors prefer the more iconic blue dial, but I chose the grey because I love that it doesn’t overpower the stainless steel bezel and bracelet.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked Black Ceramic
My holy grail of watches. Aesthetically, it fits perfectly with my day-to-day colour palette since it’s a black watch. Conceptually I love it because it combines the classic Royal Oak silhouette with updated, modern materials, and the fact that it’s openworked gives it a wow factor that even non-watch enthusiasts can appreciate.
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date
My very first Rolex, this marked a very special time in my life and is a great everyday watch. Its classic, timeless design is easily recognisable but also doesn’t attract too much attention when I’m out and about. A staple and a great first watch for any collector.
