David Ho checks out who won at the 67th Grammy Awards
With nominations led by Beyoncé (11 nods), the 67th Grammy Awards was a tribute to those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires. Host Trevor Noah confessed that they were not even sure if the show would even happen just a few weeks ago and joked that those who exceeded their time for speeches would have to donate $1,000 for every extra second. Firefighters were invited to the awards ceremony, where they got to walk the red carpet and take selfies with the stars.
Music's biggest night came with some surprises. Beyoncé picked up her first Album of the Year win. She also won for Best Country Album, something she clearly did not expect. The trophy for the latter was presented to her by Taylor Swift, another artist who has successfully genre hopped. The victory must have been sweet after her snub at the Country Music Awards a few months prior.
It was a great night for rappers. Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track "Not Like Us" swept all five categories it was nominated for, including Record of the Year. Rapper Doechii became the third female artist ever in the Grammy's history to win Best Rap Album.
Meanwhile, Chappell Roan used her winning speech for Best New Artist to call out record labels for not providing emerging artists with liveable wages and healthcare.
Lady Gaga premiered her new single "Abracadabra" from the upcoming album Mayhem at the show. Other performers include Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Stevie Wonder, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Cynthia Erivo, Charli XCX, and many more.
