Watches and Wonders 2025: Piaget’s new Sixties and Andy Warhol watches nod to its jewel-making roots

Piaget pays homages to its aesthetic code with the Sixties watch and the Andy Warhol Watch

The 1960s was a transformative era in design. This postmodern period saw the use of geometric shapes, lines, and angles that inspired bold, aesthetically commanding creations. It was during this time that Piaget’s trapezoid-shaped Sixties collection came into being.

“At Piaget, a timepiece is first and foremost a piece of jewellery,” said Yves Piaget. Staying true to this philosophy, the Sixties was born from a design first imagined as jewellery pieces. The DNA of the collection is now reinterpreted once again into a collection of timepieces featuring the same geometric silhouette.

As much a jeweller as a watchmaker, Piaget continues to blend the boundaries between the two crafts to create this new Sixties collection, unveiling a range of timepieces that capture the house’s unique talents and vision in both arenas.

A play on textures and proportions brings life to the new Sixties collection. The trapeze-shaped timepiece features a chiselled bezel that creates a geometric contrast to the supple link bracelet. A bejewelled rendition elevates the design by replacing the grooved bezel with diamonds. Renditions in mixed alloys also feature in this collection. On its satin-finished dial, golden hour markers and baton hands blend seamlessly with the two Roman numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock.

Elevating that element of jewel-making, the house created a pendant watch featuring the same trapezoid shape decorated with diamonds and bejewelled tassels. The glint from the opal dial further lends the piece a feminine softness.

Another icon of the maison that sees a bold transformation is the Black Tie watch. First launched in 1972 as the 15102, the cushion-shaped piece was relaunched as the Andy Warhol Watch, paying homage to one of its most recognisable patrons. Warhol owned seven Piaget watches, with this design being his most beloved. To mark this unique connection between the piece and the artist, Piaget and Warhol’s Foundation launched this second iteration of the Andy Warhol watch, with an electrifying blue opal dial.

In this high-jewellery rendition, the scintillating blue-green opal dial is housed inside a 45mm case adorned with three rows of baguette-cut sapphires around the bezel.

This year, the design is also presented in three other iterations, with a green and white meteorite and a tiger-eye dal.  Straps in brown, green or red alligator accentuate the depth and richness of the dials.
