Watches and Wonders 2025: Panerai explores the ocean and space with its latest novelties

Apr 16, 2025

Panerai made waves at Watches and Wonders 2025 with its ocean-themed booth. It proved to be clues for its offerings this year. David Ho reports

Panerai has enhanced its Luminor Marina watch while keeping to its same iconic aesthetic of six decades. The new models contain a newly updated in-house made movement and a thinner case that now boasts 500 meters of water resistance. The heart of the Luminor Marina series would be the new P.980 caliber, which comes with a three-day power reserve stored in one barrel and a frequency of 4 Hz.

They timepieces are available with black, blue or green dials. We find the blue Luminor Marina that comes with a progressive V-shaped metal bracelet tapers seamlessly for a refined yet lightweight feel.

The Luminor Marina Titanio harks back to Panerai’s ties to the Italian Navy with its brushed-finished case crafted from Grade 5 titanium combined with an olive green, sun ray dial. The maison’s use of this resistant metal dates back to the 1980s with the Millemetri prototype and again in 1998 with the Submersible PAM00025. These corrosion proof and wear resistance have made it particularly suited for Navy applications, where seawater is a cause for consideration.

Finally, Panerai created a lot of buzz with the Jupiterium, a large-scale planetarium clock based on Italian physicist Galileo Galilei’s celestial observations. Powered by eight barrels, the Jupiterium has a 40-day power reserve.

Encased in glass with a mahogany base, it maps the Sun, Moon, Jupiter, and its Galilean moons in real-time. Its patented retrograde system simulates planetary motion, while its perpetual calendar is accurate all the way till 2099. Guess we will see this till Watches and Wonders 2099 then.
