Watches and Wonder 2025: Playfulness reigns at Hermès with reintroduction of award-winning Le temp suspendu movement

Known for its whimsical take on timekeeping, Hermès presents new references that celebrate the endless possibilities in watchmaking
Hermès presents two new renditions of its award-winning complication as part of its Watches and Wonders 2025 offering. The whimsical Le temps suspendu finds its way to five new references from the Maison across two models, the Arceau and the Cut.
The Le temps suspendu, which translates from French to mean time suspended, features a mechanism which allows the hands to be ‘detached’ from the movement, seemingly suspending time across the dial. The timekeeping, however, continues beneath the dial and re-engages with the hands once the pusher is triggered. This playful mechanism won the Best Men’s prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie when it launched in 2011.

The complication was previously found exclusively in the Arceau model, which sees three new renditions in red, desert beige, or sunburst blue, with the former two in white gold and the latter in rose gold. This latest iteration offers a glimpse of the movement through a sapphire crystal cut-out at the dial's centre.
Alongside the central hour and minute, the timepiece also features a retrograde date display across an arch on the lower half of the dial.
The 42 mm case houses a self-winding Manufacture Hermès H1837 calibre with a 45-hour power reserve. Colour-matching alligator or calfskin leather straps paired with each dial.

This year, the Le time suspendu complication features for the first time in the Cut, a design featuring a cushion-shaped case with a round dial. Two versions of the piece, one with a red sunburst dial and the other a silver, are available in rose gold with an integrated bracelet or a rubber strap. For those who prefer that extra sparkle, diamonds around the bezel are an additional option.
Housed inside the 39mm rose gold case is the Hermès H1912 movement, a self-winding calibre with a power reserve of 45 hours. In addition to the time suspension function that allows the hour and minute hands to make a complete 360-degree retrograde rotation, the movement has an additional 24-second running counter that moves counter-clockwise. This counter-clockwise mechanism, displayed through a sub-dial at four o’clock position, adds yet another facet of playfulness to this piece.
