This year’s MAMA Awards captured its most powerful fashion moments through a quiet, restrained palette of black, white and grey

The recent Tai Po fire cast a lingering sadness over Hong Kong, transforming what was meant to be a night of celebration and glamour into something different. Groups and artists adjusted their red-carpet looks at the last minute, switching to black, white and grey, with some adding black ribbons, the most direct and most controlled gesture of respect. On this night, fashion was no longer fireworks, but an attitude, a courtesy, a form of respect.

Yet, within this restraint, each artist found a way to turn limited colours into style possibilities. Black, white and grey are never dull. When tailoring, texture and proportion speak, they can express dignity, rebellion, futurism, softness or experimentation. The 2025 MAMA Awards showcased a unique density of style precisely because of this creativity within limitation.

Below, we look at each group’s fashion direction. To see how black, white and grey were reinterpreted, offering styling inspiration you can easily adapt for this season.

Allday Project

Rookie group Allday Project surprised with an unexpectedly bold presence, far from what one would typically expect of newcomers. They created a futuristic mood using white and grey, playing with contrasts in material weight. Asymmetric cuts, off-shoulder details, plush coats and boots formed a visual language with a hint of futurism. The impression is clean, cool and full of thoughtful detail. Even in full white, the variety of textures produced rich layers.

Paired with tall boots to elongate the lines, and abundant silver accessories to enhance the cool, metallic mood. The group demonstrated that even in all black, one can be both avant-garde and powerful that full of bold feminine energy.

Cortis

Fresh from their debut yet already award-winning, Cortis naturally drew attention with their styling as well. They chose a street-inspired mix of oversized leather jackets, sporty outerwear and trench coats, adding depth to a dark palette. Layered T-shirts, cargo trousers, distressed details and shirts tied at the waist pulled the outfits together. For example, Kim Ju-Hoon’s jeans were the crisis craver jeans from Latui Atelier. Sneakers and boots were used to unify the footwear direction.

The most talked-about piece was Martin’s lace jacket custom-made by Per Götesson, a compelling contrast of softness and strength, streetwear and sheer fabric. Adding an air of mystery to his presence.

Enhypen

Enhypen redefined elegance for an awards ceremony with what appeared to be a simple black suit. Each blazer featured sharp, close-fit tailoring. Meanwhile, keeping the lines clean. White shirts heightened the contrast, giving a classic and composed look. Worn alone, the suits might risk appearing too restrained, so they added touches of classical accessories: traditional knots, silver tassels, antique-style brooches, etc. They are all from South Korean brand Leje. BlackPink’s Jennie has also worn Leje several times, including in the ‘Seoul City’ music video, and more.

G-Dragon

Fashion royalty G-Dragon always creates his own rules outside the rules. He used a fitted black suit as the base, contrasting it with a pink shirt and rose brooch for softness. Then finished with a furry hat to tone down the formality. This landing in that delicate balance between elegance and rebellion. Later on, his stage look switched to a polka-dot suit in performing “Heartbreaker” that served that humorous, playful, and unmistakably GD energy.
