Right in the heart of Sukhumvit, La Galette is quickly becoming a favourite among locals, travellers and food lovers alike. With its cosy atmosphere, elegant design and approachable take on French cuisine, it offers a warm welcome to anyone looking for something both relaxed and refined.

The restaurant is tucked away on Sukhumvit Soi 49, inside RQ Sport at The Racquet Club Bangkok. The cream, brown and red interiors create a calm and inviting space. The name La Galette comes from an old French word referring to a rustic, round flat cake, often filled and enjoyed as a simple meal in the countryside.

Behind the project are Polly and Jakthong “Mu” Ubolsootvanich, who wanted to create a French restaurant with the casual ease of a café. Their goal was to make the experience feel friendly and unpretentious. Whether you stop by after a workout or meet friends for a quiet lunch, La Galette offers the kind of space that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile.

As you step inside, you are greeted by a cabinet filled with golden pastries. Comfortable tables are arranged alongside, while a staircase at the back leads to a second floor. Upstairs, diners can enjoy their meals while watching the chefs work through a glass window that looks directly into the kitchen. It is a thoughtful detail that makes the space feel both open and personal.

P’Mu explained the thinking behind the restaurant:

“These days, when people think of French food, they often picture fine dining or something quite formal. But that is not how people in France eat every day. I spent time studying there, so I have a sense of what everyday meals are really like. Just like we have krapao rice in Thailand, they have their own daily staples. I wanted to bring some of that feeling to our menu.”

We tried three dishes that reflect the restaurant’s philosophy: simple, well-made French food that feels both familiar and satisfying.

Citrus Scallop Crudo

This refreshing starter features Hokkaido scallops dressed with citrus and olive oil. The result is bright, clean and delicately fragrant, with just the right balance of sweetness and acidity. It is light, elegant and a lovely way to begin the meal.

Chicken Cordon Bleu

A classic done with care. Chicken rolled with ham is breaded and fried to a golden crisp, then served with a creamy Dijon sauce that brings a gentle tang. The meat is tender and juicy, never greasy, and the house-made chilli oil served on the side adds a welcome lift to the dish.

Ispahan French Toast

The highlight of the meal. A thick slice of brioche is pan-fried in butter until soft and golden, then served with raspberry sauce, grilled lychee, rose cream and raspberry sorbet. Each bite brings together floral, fruity and creamy elements in perfect balance. It is indulgent yet light, and a beautifully composed way to end the meal.

If you are looking for thoughtfully made French food that is both comforting and unpretentious, La Galette is well worth a visit. The restaurant is open daily from 8.00am to 9.30pm, located inside RQ Sport between Sukhumvit Sois 39 and 49.
