Starting with the first brand, ‘JULYCOLUMN’ revealed its Spring/Summer 2025 collection on the runway of Seoul Fashion Week. This collection blends traditional Korean culture with the modernity of contemporary South Korean society, drawing inspiration from the ‘Seonbi’, a term for scholars who adhered to Confucian ideals. The garments in this collection highlight intricate traditional tailoring techniques and beadwork inspired by the use of jade, a symbol of nobility since ancient times. Craftsmanship and attire are integral to Korean history. Additionally, the brand places a strong emphasis on environmental conservation by partnering with Jeju Samdasoo Water, a renowned Korean beverage company, to recycle plastic bottles into fabric, which is used as a key material in all the garments of this collection.

For the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, ‘HANNAH SHIN’ presented the theme ‘Subatomic’, inspired by quantum mechanics. The concept explores how every atomic particle is interconnected, intertwined, or related, reflecting the interconnectedness of all entities such as humans, the environment, and technology. This concept underscores that sustainable development can only occur when everything is in harmony with one another. The collection features high-fashion pieces utilising 3D printing technology, in collaboration with STRATASYS Korea, the world’s largest 3D printing company, and BC Lighting, a major producer of luxury lighting. Additionally, the brand employs various laser-cutting technologies combined with traditional handcraft techniques, marking a significant step forward for the Korean fashion industry.

Another intriguing brand at Seoul Fashion Week is ‘DOUCAN’, which presents the concept of ‘DNA’, exploring the value of existence and individual history, as everything in the world carries DNA. This collection reflects memories, history, and culture in a beautifully radiant manner. It also integrates the DNA of Eastern culture with modern clothing structures, embracing both fashion and scientific technology to showcase a new DNA for the brand.

‘AJOBYAJO’ is another notable Korean brand to watch. For this fashion week, the brand presented a collection inspired by the film [Saint Maud] (2019), showcasing it in their unique style. AJOBYAJO aimed to depict individuals who seek redemption and recognition, conveying the idea of people who wish to keep their true selves hidden. The collection illustrates that one does not need to publicly announce their identity; even while concealing themselves, they can find a community that understands and accepts them. To highlight this theme, all the models on the runway wore masks, symbolising the concealment and obscuration of their true selves.

Greek mythology continues to be a rich source of inspiration in the fashion world. At this Seoul Fashion Week, ‘Maison Nica’ presents a new collection inspired by the timeless love story of Eros and Psyche. The collection reflects the evolution of love, from its nascent stages to its grandest form, encompassing all the emotional facets of love such as desire, jealousy, conflict, betrayal, attachment, forgiveness, and possession. Additionally, the show cleverly integrates other psychological elements and modern social issues related to the essence of love and family relationships.
