"...there is no denying that South Korea is one of the leaders in current fashion trends. The 'Korean Wave' or Hallyu has steadily gained momentum over the years. Today, South Korea is widely recognised globally for its fashion and beauty industries. Today, #legend_th will introduce you to 'Seoul Fashion Week' (SFW), a huge fashion event held in the South Korean capital, Seoul, which strategically operates each season to become one of the top five leaders in the fashion world..."
Seoul Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025 will begin on 3rd September 2024 and will run for five days. The event will take place at the culturally diverse and fashion and art hub, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), as well as other key fashion districts throughout the city. The fashion week will feature two main segments, 'Seoul Collection,' showcasing the work of renowned South Korean designers who have become leading figures in the fashion industry, and 'Generation Next', highlighting emerging designers with unique fashion perspectives and creative ideas, serving as a gateway for future talent.
Seoul Fashion Week was first held in 2000 with the aim of elevating Korean fashion on the global stage by enhancing the international network of domestic designers and fashion brands. It also connects them with buyers from around the world. This year, South Korea plans to connect with over 95 Korean designer brands with 120 global buyers, focusing on increasing exchanges and expanding opportunities for contracts through stronger business proposals.
At the Seoul Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024 event held last year, 84 brands and 101 international buyers participated, resulting in a total order value of approximately $5.24 million. This year, the event will feature collections from internationally recognised leading brands such as Youser, Julycolumn, Ulkin, Eenk, Bonbom, Amomento, and Marhenj. These brands aim to explore new markets and seize opportunities for contracts. Additionally, major international buyers, including the French fashion brand Prendang, Japan’s Daimaru department store, and Singapore’s Club 21, will also join.
This year’s event will also focus on ‘Sustainable Fashion,’ featuring exhibitions and promoting ethical consumption through environmentally friendly materials and fair treatment of workers. Under the theme of sustainable fashion, Hyosung TNC, a leading multinational company from South Korea, will present eco-friendly materials, including fabrics made from recycled fishing nets. Additionally, the designer brand PartsParts will showcase an exhibition titled 'Philosophy of Zero Design and Sustainable Fashion.'
"Seoul Fashion Week is not just a platform for showcasing only fashion, but also a crucial opportunity to create global business prospects for Korean designers and brands. We aim to help international buyers recognise the potential of the K-fashion industry through this event, fostering greater collaboration and achieving tangible results"
Choi Pahn-kyu, head of the Creative Industry Planning Bureau at the Seoul Metropolitan Government
