“…'Colors' is the first art exhibition in Thailand by renowned Japanese artist Yuta Okuda. This event also features a collaboration with leading Thai street artist Muebon from Sanctuary Gallery. The exhibition takes visitors through vibrant colours and creativity, reflecting the diverse emotions and stories of both artists…”

CURU Gallery is a gathering place for art enthusiasts, dedicated to fostering the exchange of art and culture between Japan and Thailand. This time, the gallery presents the 'Colors' exhibition, which narrates the vibrant journey of creativity from two prominent artists, including Japanese artist Yuta Okuda and Thai artist Muebon from Sanctuary Gallery. Each artist conveys colours through their unique lens, offering distinct interpretations of this theme.

Yuta Okuda defines colour by conveying delicate feelings and emotions through his meaningful floral imagery. The artist describes his work as a reflection of his identity, rooted in the concept of ‘With Gratitude.’ This concept expresses his appreciation and thankfulness, especially in light of the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted our inability to pursue our passions as freely as before. As a result, he feels grateful for the present, which allows him to live meaningfully and look ahead. He translates these sentiments into vibrant floral arrangements that evoke warmth and many colours. Yuta Okuda further expresses his hope that everyone feels uplifted and refreshed while surrounded by the beauty of flowers and embraced by these diverse hues.

Thai street artist Muebon transforms symbols of capitalism into vibrant street art that reflects urban life and society, drawing inspiration from New York City. His new work is particularly captivating, as it encapsulates his experiences living in the city through his iconic character, 'Mori.' He incorporates everyday advertisements into his art, creating pieces that critique and reflect on capitalist society.

Mori serves as a medium for expressing Muebon's commitment to using art as a tool for commentary, similar to how advertisements convey various intriguing messages that often prompt questions. He aims to encourage people to think critically, question their surroundings, and reflect on their lives and communities, rather than simply being passive consumers. Muebon explains, “Living in New York has allowed me to witness the complex blend of urban cultures. I use cutting and layering of these advertisements to reflect history and critique the commercial world that surrounds and sometimes overwhelms everyone’s daily life.”

Experience the art and unique perspectives on colour from both artists at CURU Gallery, Warehouse 30, from now until 20th October 2024.
