Paris Fashion Week 2022: Day 4 with Declan Chan

Hong Kong stylist, Declan Chan, is in the City of Lights during one of its most fashionable times of the year. He checks out Loewe, Victoria Beckham and Alessandra Rich

Day four of my Paris fashion week started with a trip to Loewe. This season the historic house presented a whimsical collection that aimed to reduce, tighten, and redesign the feminine silhouette. Soothing notes from violins set a light-hearted mood as the opening look worn by Taylor Russell commenced the show. The star who acts alongside Timothée Chalamet in the soon-to-be-released film Bones and All wore a deep black velvet dress that protruded at the waist – creating a structured hourglass silhouette. The dress made three equally dramatic appearances on the catwalk.

Anthurium flowers were seen throughout the presentation. The exotic flower was integrated into not only the set design and invitation but also was sewn onto many of the runway garments. Serene natural colours and prints were mixed with pixilated looks, creating a subtle clash between the natural and digital worlds. Playing with volumes was a constant and could be seen with playful oversized shoes and skintight shorts.

A pixilated hoodie and trousers drew my attention and conjured up memories of ’90s video games that featured pixilated characters. This collection was dreamy and communicated a certain delicate softness that Loewe consistently constructs every season. As I made my way out of the venue, I snapped a quick photo in front of the anthurium flower and reflected on Jonathan’s graceful collection.

Victoria Beckham

Later in the day, I headed off to the Victoria Beckham show located at Val-de-Grâce, a 17th-century church in the heart of Paris. This was the first time Victoria has shown in the City of Lights, as well as her first live show with an audience since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The collection featured remarkable construction of draped dresses, leather jackets, and fringed skirts – all of which showcased the extensive knowledge Victoria carries for elaborate garment construction. Models carried themselves with a particular vigour adding to the ultra-sexy energy that surged through this ambitious collection.

Alessandra Rich

My last catwalk of the day took me to the ever-so-charming Maxim’s de Paris where I attended the Alessandra Rich show. The cosy Parisian institution known for its exquisite cuisine and chic nightlife was an ideal place to showcase the collection titled “Let’s Kiss”.

This runway was full of skimpy garments that framed flat stomachs and clenched to the curves of models’ bodies. The ample use of chain belts, knee-high snakeskin boots, and distressed denim gave a naughty vibe to a collection that affectionately seduces.
