If you’ve only rented out a yacht during the day, you’re missing out — an increasing number of overnight yacht charters are becoming available as the Hong Kong maritime industry flourishes this summer. Yes, even amidst a pandemic.
When Hong Kong tightened its lockdown measures a few months ago, the industry braced itself for the worst. Turns out, closed borders mean business – local demand for yacht sales and charters have significantly increased as people find themselves heading onto the sea, their closest chance to tasting freedom.
“There has been an increased awareness among Hong Kong people of the beautiful islands and coastline right on their doorstep. The weather has also been unusually good this summer […] So instead of escaping by jumping on a plane to a regional tourist destination, Hong Kong people who can afford it are jumping onto a boat and exploring the islands and beaches of Hong Kong.”
Mike Simpson, Founder and Managing Director of Simpson Marine
