Designed exclusively for guests to follow in the footsteps of legendary artists, Hotel Eden (Rome) – part of the Dorchester Collection – invites guests to discover the story of Caravaggio’s extraordinary life through their new Rebel and Rome programme.

This follows Dorchester’s other offerings: Picasso’s Montmartre trail and Monet’s Revolutionary Brushstrokes trail in Paris.

The Rebel and Rome trail delves deep into Caravaggio’s rags to riches daring life, a life inspired and seduced by a cast of colourful characters – from wealthy patrons to gamblers, models and fortune-tellers – and inextricably linked to the city he called home.

Accompanied by a passionate, knowledgeable guide, guests will uncover why Martin Scorsese thought Caravaggio would have been a great film-maker, and how a match of real tennis led to Caravaggio’s own death sentence.

The itinerary

The adventure begins at Hotel Eden as you are transported back in time to retrace some of the most significant moments of Caravaggio’s epic Roman sojourn. From the newest discoveries, supported by recently unearthed court documents and lawsuits, to the sites of the workshops where Caravaggio trained, and even to the very spot that caused the artist’s exile from Rome.

With lively dialogue in the company of an experienced guide, one-on-one or as part of a small, private group, guests will be able to pause and enjoy the beauty of Rome, as well as absorb thrilling anecdotes about the artist’s life and career, which will remain with them long after their stay. Guests will undertake a captivating journey into Rome and into the life of one of its most famous residents.

Each itinerary will be adapted so that the trails are able to cater for both intrepid explorers who wish to refine their knowledge, as well as novices who may have visited Rome before but never delved deeper.

In the coming months, Dorchester Collection’s series of “Follow in the footsteps of Legendary Artists” will be expanded to include Rodin at Le Meurice in Paris and Hepworth at 45 Park Lane in London.
