Double RL x Zefren-M capsule honours Navajo culture and supports Indigenous communities
Ralph Lauren has unveiled its latest initiative in the Artist in Residence programme, launching the Double RL x Zefren-M collaboration. This special-edition capsule features the work of Diné (Navajo) artist Zefren-M, who combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design to celebrate and preserve Navajo heritage.
The collection, integrated into Double RL's Fall/Holiday 2024 assortment, includes iconic pieces such as workshirts and hand-knit shawl cardigans, alongside soft accessories and a unique floor rug. The designs reflect the natural landscape of Navajo Nation, incorporating patterns inspired by Zefren-M’s ancestral weaving traditions.
Zefren-M, a multidisciplinary artist and advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights, expressed their commitment to honouring Navajo stories through their art.
"Collaborating with the Double RL team allowed us to create a unique expression of our shared love of heritage and tradition," they stated.
In a move that underscores its dedication to community support, Ralph Lauren will donate a portion of sales from this collaboration to The Lyndon Foundation, which promotes Indigenous arts and crafts. The foundation's founder, Lyndon Tsosie, a former mentor to Zefren-M, will also have select handmade silver pieces available at the Double RL flagship store in New York City.
A short film detailing Zefren-M’s artistic journey and the inspiration behind the collection will premiere on YouTube, further enriching the narrative of this culturally significant partnership. The Double RL x Zefren-M capsule will be available from November 7, inviting consumers to engage with and celebrate Indigenous artistry.
