When you think of design-led hotels, you immediately think of Alila (which means ‘surprise’ in Sanskrit). Their eco-conscious properties elevate and become a part of the natural, physical and cultural elements of their environments – from the lime stone cliffs of Uluwatu to the Al Hajar Mountains of Oman.

The first of Alila’s hotels in Malaysia, Alila Bangsar, designed by Neri & Hu, features calming white interiors juxtaposed against a sleek and modern dark-cladded exterior. The pool on the 40thfloor mirrors this as well with its soothing and luscious landscaping providing a great contrast to the views of Kuala Lumpur’s skyscraper skyline.

The urban retreat is home to 143 rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows to let in as much natural light as possible. Dining options include French semi-fine nose-to-tail dining restaurant Entier, helmed by Chef Masashi Hirouchi from two Michelin-starred L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in London, a Pacific Standard cocktail lounge, a rooftop bar Lido and Botanica + Co which specialises in wholesome dishes crafted with fresh and quality produce.

If you’re looking to experience a bit of local culture, Alila has put together a series of exclusive activities and experiences, including a hands-on Pewter Crafting workshop at Royal Selangor, a Kuala Lumpur Food Walk which takes you through the city’s best local eateries, an Off-The-Road Cooking Class located in a beautiful jungle setting just outside to the city and a City Sky Tour in a private aircraft for panoramic views of the skyline.
