Penfolds unveils a festive Holiday Collection designed by NIGO

In an exciting announcement that heralds the festive spirit, Penfolds has unveiled its 2024 Holiday Collection, a unique series of wines and gift boxes designed by the renowned cultural icon, NIGO. This limited-edition release, which reflects a blend of tradition and contemporary design, is poised to elevate the gifting experience this holiday season

NIGO, known for his pioneering contributions to street fashion and his role as creative director of Human Made and artistic director at Kenzo, expressed his commitment to integrating cultural elements into his designs. 

The Holiday Collection showcases four distinct gift boxes, each inspired by NIGO's interpretation of the graphic checkered pattern found in traditional Asian textiles. The designs feature a striking two-tone checkered pattern, symbolising eternity and prosperity, which is seamlessly integrated across all packaging. This thoughtful design enhances the aesthetic appeal and pays homage to cultural heritage.

The collection includes:

  • Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz: The centrepiece of the collection, a distinguished Australian red wine that exemplifies the art of blending two iconic grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Often referred to as "Baby Grange", this wine has a storied history, first crafted in 1960 by the legendary winemaker Max Schubert. It is presented in a vibrant 'Penfolds Red' box with a playful pillow texture.
  • Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay: Encased in a festive green cylinder, making it an ideal gift for any occasion.
  • Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz: A striking blue cylinder adorned with gold foil embellishments, perfect for festive tablescapes.
  • Penfolds Max's (Shiraz and Shiraz Cabernet): Featuring a bold black checkered pattern, these wines are designed to stand out.

Gifting with NIGO's Furoshiki

In addition to the exquisite wine packaging, NIGO has also created four wrapping cloths that complement the gift boxes. These Furoshiki cloths draw from ancient Asian traditions and offer a more sustainable alternative for wrapping gifts, available at HBX.com. 

NIGO expressed his commitment to cultural representation in this project, stating, "It was very important to me to incorporate my culture into this holiday collection. Integrating the checkered design and Furoshiki was a clear way for me to honour that."

A strategic partnership

This collaboration marks NIGO's third project with Penfolds since he was announced as their creative partner in June 2023. The launch of Holiday Designed by NIGO follows the global release of One by Penfolds (NIGO's first Penfolds project), as well as the legendary Grange by NIGO release. With such successful launches, more projects between the vineyard and the artist will be announced in early 2025. 

Kristy Keyte, Chief Marketing Officer at Penfolds, highlighted the significance of gifting in Australian culture, noting that over half of Australians have gifted wine in the past year. She remarked on how this collection represents an elevated way to share Penfolds wines during the festive season.

Availability

The Penfolds Holiday Designed by NIGO collection will be available at selected Market Place stores from December 2024.
