Tai Kwun Contemporary is introducing a major survey exhibition, MURAKAMI vs MURAKAMI, by famous Japanese artist Takashi Murakami.
Murakami is seen as one of the most influential artists of our time thanks to his bold critiques on contemporary culture, which continuously break boundaries through his work. Murakami creates paintings and sculptures as well as fashion, merchandise, and animation. This exhibit will feature over 60 of his most iconic paintings and sculptures, exploring his diverse and multifaceted life’s work.
MURAKAMI vs MURAKAMI will exhibit Murakami’s large-scale post-apocalyptic work, optimistic flower pieces, contemplative Enso paintings, samples of his private art collection, and some of his most outlandish costume designs, as well as wall and floor art.
The Exhibit will be curated by Gunnar B. Kvaran, the director of Astrup Fearnley Museet, and Tobias Berger, the Head of Art at Tai Kwun. During the three months of the exhibit, Tai Kwun Contemporary will also host a wide range of public programming and educational events, including videos of Murakami himself and public discussions with the artist, Kvaran, and Berger. There will also be guided tours, educational workshops, public talks, anime, film screenings, and a pop-up store.
The exhibit will run from June 1st to September 1st, 2019 at the JC Contemporary & F Hall studio in Central Hong Kong. Ticket prices will vary from $45 to $75.
