Christie’s to auction an ensemble of Louis Vuitton trunks from prominent Japanese collector in their upcoming events in 2022
A collection of 13 Louis Vuitton trunks will debut at Christie’s Handbags and Accessories Spring and Autumn live auctions in Hong Kong this year. Considered to be one of the most masterfully curated assemblages of LV trunks to come to market in recent years, the collection belongs to a prominent Japanese collector and has an estimated total value exceeding HK$3 million (US$430,000).
“Building upon our historic success last season and continued leadership in handbag auctions, we are very honoured to have been entrusted with the sale of this exceptionally rare and fresh-to-the-market Louis Vuitton trunk collection, which will be presented in our Hong Kong sale room throughout the year of 2022,” says Winsy Tsang, head of Department of Handbags and Accessories at Christie’s Asia Pacific. “Assembled over many years, every piece in this capsule collection is timeless and still in pristine collection, epitomising the quintessence of elegance, and pursuit of the art of living by this esteemed Japanese collector.”
The collector – which remains anonymous – took two decades to assemble the 13 pieces. Each object is a result of the collector’s careful curation and his long-term friendship with Patrick Louis Vuitton, the great-great-grandson of Louis Vuitton and the Maison’s former Head of Special Orders department.
Some of the trunks in the collection includes the Night Picnic Astronomy Telescope Monogram Trunk, Watch Monogram Trunk, and the Japanese Tea Ceremony Damier Trunk. They are unique pieces by special order, representing the fruition of Patrick Louis Vuitton’s innovative concepts and the brand’s extraordinary artistry, that fully catered to the specific needs of the collector’s habits and lifestyle.
