What an exciting time to be in Rio.

Louis Vuitton is set to present its cruise 2017 collection at the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, a landmark building in Brazil that is designed by celebrated Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

It will be the first time the museum has ever hosted a fashion show, and the occasion also serves to celebrate the museum’s 20th anniversary and its reopening to the public following major renovations.

Shaped like a flying saucer, the futuristic-looking building sits on the edge of a hill, overlooking the blue waters of Guanabara Bay. It was built in 1991 and inaugurated in 1996.

“The setting inspired me right away,” says Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of women’s collection at Louis Vuitton. “It’s about being transported into a relationship where nature, geography and architecture come together in the vision of a great architect… With the 2017 cruise collection, we’ll be discovering the vision of Oscar Niemeyer.”

Last year, the storied fashion house showcased its cruise collection at the Bob and Dolores Hope Estate in Palm Springs, designed by modernist architect John Lautner.

Held on May 28, the fashion show will also be broadcast live at louisvuitton.com.
